I asked this of your colleague Speaker Pelosi a few weeks ago, Mr. Majority Leader, but the continuing collapse of Democrats in Congress is forcing me to ask it again: which part of "Kiss my ass, I’m the Unitary Executive Commander Guy" haven’t you and Nancy Pelosi figured out yet?
Progressives keep pleading for leadership from you, Harry, but we aren’t getting any. From what I’ve seen, you couldn’t lead a troop of Cub Scouts to a camp fire. One of them would have to do it, otherwise they’d all be wandering around in the woods with you for three weeks while you regaled them with stories of how you stood up to the Las Vegas Mafia back in 1928 or whenever the fuck it was.
In other words, Harry, what have you done for us LATELY? Like here in the 21st Century, for example? We don’t want to hear any more specious crap from you that Democrats "set the bar too high." You must have been lying bleary-eyed on the FLOOR of a bar when that mind-numbing excuse popped into your head.
Are you the Majority Leader of the Senate of the United States or not? If you are, then starting acting like it instead of fumbling around like Deputy Barney Fife looking for his bullet.
I don't have anything else to say to you right now, Mr. Majority Futility Leader, you and Madame Speaker are too busy crawling on your knees begging Mr. 26 Percent for some cooperation to listen anyway.
But I do have a few things to say about what's been going on here on Daily Kos. This is the largest political blog in the world, we have the numbers, energy and communication skills to generate much more influence with Congress if we FOCUSED our attention and activism on 2 or 3 issues, like IMPEACHMENT for example, or the IRAQ MORATORIUM, or waking Nancy and Harry THE HELL UP so maybe they'll do SOMETHING we can be proud of for a few minutes.
But instead of empowering ourselves and making a difference right now, way too many of us are caught up in this ridiculous presidential race. We had a big flame war about Ron Paul, and THAT'S finally over, but stay tuned for the big flame war about Michael Bloomberg.
Edwards and Hillary and Obama and Gore supporters are fighting with each other all over the place. They're battling on the recc list, in the recent diary list, and on the front page threads day after day after day. We're getting updates on what Edwards said in some parking lot in Oregon, how big a crowd Obama drew in Topeka, and where Hillary is going to be at 3:30 PM next Tuesday.
Then it starts all over again the next day.
HELLO! IT'S JUNE 2007! The first primary is 8 MONTHS from now. The conventions are a YEAR away. Americans won't start paying ANY serious attention to the presidential race until after LABOR DAY 2008.
So I'm imploring all of the manic presidential marathon marchers among us to get a grip, take a deep breath, take a good look at a calendar, and give it a rest for awhile.
I also think there's far too much talk here about the latest revelations of Bush/Cheney/Republican crimes. How many more GORY DETAILS do we need to see? What point is there in dwelling on GORY DETAIL after GORY DETAIL after GORY DETAIL? They're all criminals, we've known that for seven years, so when are we going to quit clucking about it like a bunch of old hens and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
I understand that Daily Kos is a source of news and forum for communication, but we need to expand what we're doing, we need to start thinking outside the box so we can fulfill the potential this community has to make a real difference. There are over 125,000 members of Daily Kos. When are we going to get organized?
Why can't SOMEONE here let the plumbing take care of itself for awhile, and pick one issue each week that we can all focus on for the entire week? We could light up the telephones and fax machines in Harry or Nancy's Capitol Shithole Hill offices seven days in a row about the same issue and maybe they'll finally start listening to us. Then we can do it again the next week, and the week after that, and the week after that.
That's just one idea, but since there are approximately 124,999 other progressives here who are much smarter than I am, I'm confident they can create an arsenal of ideas if we just let Hillary and Obama and Edwards et al fend for themselves for awhile.
If we don't work together and start brainstorming some new and much more effective ways to EMPOWER ourselves and forge some UNITY and generate some FOCUS here on Daily Kos, it's going to be a long, demoralizing trudge through the next year and a half for us.
Let's cut back a little on reading and analyzing political news and start MAKING some political news.
I can't post a diary without saying IMPEACH at least once, so I'm going to end this one by saying IMPEACH, and by asking people to Sign the Pledge.
